A modern fuse board that protects every circuit — usually fitted in a day

Consumer Unit Upgrades (Fuse Board Replacement)

Your consumer unit is the heart of your property's electrical installation. An old fuse board — one with rewireable fuses, no residual current protection, or no individual circuit breakers — is the single most common electrical safety deficiency we find. A modern board cuts the power in milliseconds when something goes wrong, protecting you from shock and your home from electrical fire.

We test every circuit before the changeover to find any hidden faults, fit a quality board with surge protection as standard, label every breaker clearly and walk you through the new installation before we leave. Most consumer unit upgrades are completed in a single day.

What's included

Full circuit test first

Every circuit is inspected and tested before the changeover, so hidden problems are priced and resolved up front.

Protection on every circuit

Each circuit gets its own breaker so a fault in one room never blacks out your whole property.

Surge protection built in

Your TVs, appliances and electronics are protected from damaging voltage spikes as standard.

Clearly labelled and explained

Every breaker labelled, the new board demonstrated and explained before we leave.

Consumer units questions, answered

How much does a consumer unit upgrade cost?

It depends on the board size and the number of circuits, so we agree one fixed price for your exact job before anything starts.

How long will the power be off?

Usually just a few hours during the working day. We plan the changeover so the disruption to your home is as short as possible.

My old fuse board never tripped — why does the new one?

Modern boards catch faults the old one simply ignored. That's precisely the protection you're paying for. We test every circuit at changeover, so anything the new board flags gets found and fixed at the same time.

Do I actually need a new consumer unit?

If you have rewireable fuses, an old wooden-backed board or no RCD protection, an upgrade is worth doing. If your board is fine, we'll tell you so. We'll never recommend work you don't need.
