My old fuse board never tripped — why does the new one?

Do I actually need a new consumer unit?
If you have rewireable fuses, an old wooden-backed board or no RCD protection, an upgrade is worth doing. If your board is fine, we'll tell you so. We'll never recommend work you don't need.
